ACA Health care exchange insurance companies for Wisconsin announced

Last edited Thu Sep 19, 2013, 02:43 PM - Edit history (1)

Here's a link to what is supposed to be the final list of insurance companies that will participate in the health care exchanges in Wisconsin that are set to open October 1: http://media.jrn.com/documents/service-area-091913.pdf

Some counties have only one or two companies signed up. One might wonder whether there would have been more if the state had taken its responsibility to set up the exchanges rather than dump it on the federal government to do all the work, as many Republican-run states have done.

Several counties only have one insurer for individual markets - primarily Security Health. And they sucked before ACA. I know this because as a self-employed individual for part of the last two decades, I had Security Health and they were shit.

Might a competent state government have done some outreach to encourage more insurers to become involved? (Our DUers in insurance could tell us if that would have been feasible.) But Walker's crew joined the Republican trend and bailed out of setting up the exchanges, hoping to wound the program in yet another way.

(Thanks for pointing out the link--I ditched the period.)

I am anxious to find out if this will lower my rates. I buy my own insurance (Unity) here in Dane Co. I'd love to see my costs go down!
