Nanos Poll: Canadians less certain over country's direction

When asked "Is Canada as a country moving in the right direction or the wrong direction?"

"Forty-eight per cent responded the country was headed in the right direction. Twenty-seven per cent thought the country was moving in the wrong direction and 25 per cent of Canadians were unsure.

That's a significant change from 2011, when 64 per cent of Canadians said the country was moving in the right direction, 28 per cent said the country was moving in the wrong direction and only 9 per cent were unsure.

Nanos said the change in support is driven by a number of factors with a number issues dogging the government right now, including the controversy over robocalls during the last federal election, the cost of the F-35 fighter jet and the omnibus budget bills.

"But I would say the number one thing is the economy. And for the Conservatives, the party that has built its brand around stewardship of the economy, this is going to be the key issue to watch," Nanos said".

Evidently 48% still have their heads in the sand.

Not surprisingly, the Globe and Mail's take on the poll was slightly different, suggesting that Canadians are unsure of the country's direction because they have too much personal debt. Spin much?

remember how many of you made fun of America because we did not fire W. back in 2004? How many times you said "what will it take for you to get that idiot out of the White House?"

Well, the same people behind W. have put your own idiot in Ottawa.

Some of us believe that we've been on the wrong track for many years. Personally, I get embarrassed when Canadians get all smug about governance and the economy.

I think Canada has been on the wrong track for at least 10 years. The latest incarnation of the Conservative Party of Canada is just the spearhead for that movement.

When I think about the direction Canada has been on more closely, I believe the direction changed after the Meech Lake Accord failed and regional politics became the status quo.

In order for Canada to reassume a more leading role in the world, Canada will have to re-embrace the value of inclusiveness and become a true cultural melting pot again. The NDP may have the power to begin the process but I am not so sure.

we've had our issues with neocons and corporatists for years and making fun of the US under the monkey is sort of pot calling kettle black. I remember the profound sense of disappointment and grief I felt for you when the 2004 election was stolen as well as the 2000. Now it turns out that our last election was possibly stolen as well.
