Mental Health Treatment Centre Shoved To Back Burner For Aquatarium Tourist Attraction

Regional economic development and efforts to bring a secure treatment unit to the Brockville Mental Health Centre will move to the back burner, while the Aquatarium takes top priority. That's what city hall has in mind with a revision to economic development director Dave Paul's work plan – and it isn't sitting well with everyone.

....there were some raised eyebrows when staff informed council Paul would spend less time this year on corporate calls, retail attraction and regional economic development, in order to tackle two new priorities: a marketing plan for the Aquatarium and facilitation of the Launch Lab business incubator.

Councillor Jeff Earle questioned the removal of another item: advocacy for a secure treatment unit for mentally ill female offenders at the Brockville Mental Health Centre.

Doesn't give the public much confidence in the team heading up the community priorities when important mental health facilities & regional economic concerns are pushed to the side in favor of a pet project of millionaires aimed at tourists -- one which has already fallen behind in expectations and schedule.

Also looks like their 'marketing plan' team has even failed on the basics, not appearing to be able to scrape together 5,000 dollars to acquire Aquatarium.com as I notice it sitting for sale on Ebay. Some big operation they got going there.

Can you say embarrassing?
