Man,this one cuts to the bone.
On the day before Mother's Day, two teenage brothers, Jess and Shane Moses, were killed after a fatal car accident in Richmond.
At about 3 a.m. Saturday, a black BMW travel-ling southbound on No. 4 Road past Steveston Highway ran off the side of the road, hitting a tree and spinning into a ditch.
A male high-school friend of elder brother Shane came to the crash site Saturday afternoon to pay his respects.
The friend, who wanted to remain nameless, said the two brothers went to Hugh McRoberts Secondary in Richmond. He said Shane was "a good guy."

(3,894 posts)with two teen boys and one barely older out at 3am. Really no more or less tragic than any other accident caused by speed and probably induced altered reality of some sort, drugs or alcohol, where teens are killed. I guess the suggestion is that it is worse somehow because of Mother's' Day, but I don't buy that, teens dying is tragic for a mother regardless of the day.

(3,894 posts)I understand the desire to make this more than it is due to Mothers' Day, but really it isn't more or less tragic than any other day when families face tragic car accidents.
Additionally, for me anyway, I'm most glad it was only the two boys and not some other family killed by their drunken, reckless driving, which really knocks my sympathy for the boys or their family who apparently didn't monitor their drinking or driving very well. If that car had hit some other person(s), even if they had died, I doubt we'd be having sympathy for the drunk teens.

(3,894 posts)I'm sorry, I just don't have the idolatry of teens stupidity that you do.
That said, I didn't escalate anything, nor do I feel any animosity toward the family nor feel happy that someone's stupidity got two people of any age killed.

(10,618 posts)No Alcohol was involved. They swerved to avoid a dear in the road and were both killed. That was in the 1980's. Then about 6 or 8 years later the same thing happened to a friend of my son. 5 kids in a car and 3 of them killed when a tire blew and the car hit a tree. In my high school class there were a couple of kids killed in a car crash. I didn't know them though. Kids and cars are a dangerous combination.

(5,604 posts)Where I lived, there were little road side crosses at almost every intersection, and often they were purely accidental deaths. About 5 years ago some kid (18 years old) swerved to miss an animal at 3 a.m. and crashed through the neighbour's trees and died in my driveway. No drugs or alcohol were involved, just wrong place wrong time. Always sad.
