(14,737 posts)The prime minister said the redrawing of constituency boundaries would go ahead regardless of Cleggs protests and urged all parties to back the very sensible proposals which would see the Tories win an extra 20 MPs at the next election.
Clegg, meanwhile, made a preliminary visit to his proposed new constituency only to discover that two of the houses had For Sale signs up and the remaining one had a large UKIP banner in the front garden propped up by a burnt mattress.
Those close to the Deputy PM say that having fewer houses to visit would reduce the amount of time he needs to spend being told to fuck off on the campaign trail, leaving him with more free time in which to self-harm.

(14,737 posts)The Tory proposals would have resulted in Clegg fighting a tricky 3 way marginal.
If Clegg does actually scupper those proposals and the constituency boundries stay as they are then Sheffield Hallam will remain rock-solid Lib Dem. It's the one part of Sheffield where they Lib Dems vote hasn't collapsed and they still win council seats.
So is Clegg self-interested? Yes, but if the boundary changes are quashed then we will all be better off.

(41,205 posts)though I happen to know that in the last Council elections the ward of Chipping Norton elected a ... gasp!...Labour Councillor. Understandably, Cameron is not publicizing this result extensively. Who knows, maybe his kitchen would defy expectation and vote for the Greens.
