Ronnie Corbett, best known for The Two Ronnies, dies aged 85

Entertainer Ronnie Corbett, best known for BBC comedy sketch show The Two Ronnies, has died aged 85.

His publicist said: "Ronnie Corbett CBE, one of the nation's best-loved entertainers, passed away this morning, surrounded by his loving family.

"They have asked that their privacy is respected at this very sad time."

Corbett was one of the UK's best-loved comedians and along with Ronnie Barker, their double act was one of the most successful of the 1970s and '80s.

Sad, but a life very well lived. So that's good night from him ...

(See here for his classic Frost Report "Class" sketch with John Cleese and Ronnie Barker if that Youtube embed doesn't work: http://s220.photobucket.com/user/Toxic-Web/media/frost-report-class-sketch.mp4.html )

can you see that Youtube embed in the OP?

No embedded Youtubes are showing for me on DU at the moment, and I don't know whether it's Youtube's problem or mine (their site did seem to be having some problems last night).

It seems Firefox decided it was time for a refresh (I'm just about to join it ...).

Now Youtube embeds are fine. But it's lost all my bookmarks, and refuses to restore them from backup. Grrr.

This may be a three-bottle job.

Another Firefox restart sorted it.

Might still be a three-bottle job, though.

I can't find my favourite Ronnie Corbett sketch, "Laundry Chute", on Youtube, so here's another that shows how well he and Ronnie Barker worked together.

I used to watch them all of the time as teen while living in Sweden. He was incredibly funny. My favorite was The Picnic.

Just as funny in his own right as well as with Barker, and by all accounts a decent bloke too.

I remember watching the 2 Ronnies on PBS in the 70's and 80's.
They were hysterical
The reading of the news was always a favorite, when Corbett would go off on some tangent
They were on right before David Allen
It was a great night to watch TV

another tour de force of The Two Ronnies was "The Cleaning Ladies" song.

Ronnie Barker apparently hated dragging up, not that you'd ever have realized, but Ronnie Corbett took it in his stride.

No Youtube, but here it is at Daily Motion: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9v6xf_the-two-ronnies-cleaning-ladies-son_fun

If you don't fancy watching the whole thing, skip to about 3:05, then again to 4:40. The kitchen utensils "xylophone" was played live on real pots, pans etc., not overdubbed - astonishing stuff!
