Malwarebytes question. Still free?

A few days ago, I decided it was time to do a scan. As I updated the Malwarebytes, a screen popped up telling me that, due to the high cost of providing this program, there will now be a $29.95 charge for a yearly subscription. Well, I updated and have a 30 day trial. I have since had occasion to email my computer guru and he tells me that I need just just the free version.

Did I fall for something that I don't need or is it really now a paid program? What will happen when the 30 days are up? Will I be able to remove what I now seem to have and go back to the 'free version?
Thanks for any input.

If you want active scanning, you need the paid for version. It's $24.95 for a LIFETIME not yearly subscription I bought my licenses when they were on sale at Frys for $9.95, so I have the active scanners running. The trial offer still works after 30 days it just doesn't do active scanning-you will have to run a manual scan with it.

If you already have a subscription, you're grandfathered in for life,
but new subscriptions are yearly.
See the thread in post #1.

I haven't followed it since that other thread.
They have good support forums where it's probably discussed,
I don't have time to look into it now.
Thanks for letting me know!
