How to stop auto play

ads and videos that blast me out of the room. I've tried a number of things including popup blocker, ad block but they still come. I've even fiddled with Java but it always goes back. Its annoying when Huff Post starts, when all I want to do is read the story.

I'm running chrome browser hooked to AOL...yeah I know but its my mail account. I also use firefox.

Found this via a google search.

If you want to use Firefox, then:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashblock/?src=search

I use Firefox, have been happy with several ad blockers.
The above Flash block is their most popular one,but you can search for more "Flash blocker" on the site.
Be sure to read the notes and comments of users, who have tried out the program.
