I've decided the problem is in my router.
I posted a while back that my computer won't connect to secure websites. Well, I took the computer to the computer store and he said it is working fine now. I got it home and for the first couple of days it worked ok, but now it is right back to not connecting to secure websites. Yesterday I packed it up and went to the public library and logged on to their internet and every secure website I went to opened up, no problem. I brought the computer home and logged on and now it's right back to not connecting to secure sites. I figure the problem has to be with my router.

(112,088 posts)Is there anybody that you know that either is connected to the same Internet provider? As an alternative, could you take your computer and router to a friend with a different Internet provider to test your theory?
I'm making those suggestions so that you don't purchase any unnecessary equipment.

(43,049 posts)If it works bypassing the router entirely, either get a new router or see if there was something in the router setup blocking secure sites.

Anyway, glad that worked. BUT get another router ASAP since it can be an important link in your security. Besides, the newest routers are faster, more secure, easier to set up, and do more stuff.

(26,366 posts)Upon power-up can you connect again to secure sites?
What make/model is your router?
Do you connect to it via a wired or wireless connection?

(4,243 posts)it was the same thing, no connecting to secure sites.
My router is a Linksys, but I don't know the model number. I bought it about 4-5 years ago.
I connect via a wireless connection.

(4,243 posts)I'll work with the router at that link and see if I can fix it from there. If I can't, I guess I'll have to get a new one. Thank you so much for all of your help!
