I've been having problem with Firefox freezing on my Win7 machine

Last edited Sun Mar 13, 2016, 12:01 PM - Edit history (1)

And everything I have been reading pointed to the NVIDIA graphics card I'm using as the culprit.

Well, today I was reading The Register and they had an article on the spy ware on Windows 10. In the comments there was a long list of KB window updates concerning the spyware and the automatic up grade down grade to windows 10.

I went through the list and most of the patches were not installed on my computer.
However there were a few unwanted updates installed

KB2952644 - Prepares for win10
KB2977759 - Telemetry, Spyware.
KB3015249 - More spyware.

The first 2 uninstalls did not require a reboot. Uninstalling the third one did.
Since the reboot, the computer comes up faster and Firefox has not hung since.
Normally there was a svchost running for sever minutes, taking up way too many CPU cycles, all but hanging the computer after each reboot. That is not happening now either.

I do have GWX Control panel installed and reinstall it at least once a month.

Edited to add:
Firefox runs much faster now. DU threads of 50 to 100+ posts load in seconds, instead of minutes since uninstalling. One (or more) of those 3 listed above was the cause of the problems I've had for many months. The computer reboots faster and uses less memory now too.

Can you post the link or at least the list of unwanted updates?

Thanks.

And I have to go look for it again.
I'll be back, maybe tomorrow with something.

I appreciate it.

I have to move one system to 10 and want to turn off as much of this bullshit as I can.

4. My PDF list of bad KB patches

The "OK" after the KB number means that I do NOT have that patch on MY computer, NOT that the patch is ok. The dot after the KB number, means I have not uninstalled it yet.
Some of the KB numbers have a dash in front of it. These are from another list, verifying the problem patch as a problem.
It is probably best if everyone ignores all my hand written notes anyway, including the bottom of the last page.

The problem patches listed at the bottom of the last page are:
KB3139929
KB3146449
KB3075249
KB3123862
KB3146449

This computer has Windows 7 Professional on it.

If anyone has any other spyware or Win10 patches they know about, list them here.
Hopefully it is only a matter of time until Microsoft is explaining itself in Federal Court.

Anyway, as I said in the OP, my computer runs much better now.
And don't forget to download GWX Control Panel and install it. It is always best to download from any software's home site.
