My wireless went down so I went through the usual diagnostic test and without giving it much attention, I just said yes to all the recommended changes. I had removed my firewall and anti-virus for a couple of days, allowing the computer to run only with the microsoft defender. Well, it was only after I hit yes that I realized that the recommended option was something like, Connect to the Tehtubz. I thought to myself, did you really do that? WTF? But, the laptop did get on the internet right away.

I tried to google "tehtubz" but didn't come up with anything that jumped out at me.

Anyone have any experience with this?

1. Hard to know from what you siad.

Did you remove your firewall and anti-virus before the wireless went down? If so, why?

When it went down, what was the "usual diagnostic test" that you went through, and who was the provider of it? Why would you "say yes to all the recommended changes" without reading and understanding the changes?

Why would you approve an action without knowing until after you did it what the action was?

"Anyone have any experience with this?" No, I have never done anything even close to any part of this.

2. Mea Culpa.

I had been using a third party firewall, but have been having enormous trouble staying on the internet. I kept getting kicked off of wireless every five to ten minutes. This has been going on for over a month. So, based on someone's recommendation that Windows Defender was okay as long as I kept it up to date, I put my laptop through a test. I removed the third party firewall and anti-virus and allowed the computer to work on Windows Defender only. It was just two days. But, in that time I discovered the problem. I was running an older program that needed to be set up as a trusted site and that requires going around all of the security features of Window 10 and current browsers.

I knew I was going to try putting my third party firewall/anti-virus back on the system today to see if they would work with my fix, but the wireless went down unexpectedly. And, so, I followed Microsoft recommendations.

Yes, it was boneheaded. Never trust It's true in politics and life in general.

3. Where did it say -

"Connect to the Tehtubz"?

Is it the name of a router?

4. I checked. If I'm connecting to someone elses wireless, they are either on some invisible mode,

or they have managed to mimic the name of my router. Nothing looks out of place and everything is operating optimally.

5. Restore date? Can you go back to a previous "good" setting?

"tehtubz" sounds like a mistype of " The tubes" someone's idea of humor. Strongly suspect a wireless connection.

6. I'll update my router search program to see if there is one in the area.

I will say, that if it does exist, it has no password.

7. I hope you had a strong password on your router

Most people don't know that routers come with a factory password of "Admin" and user name of "Admin" built in (Administer). Many people don't bother setting their own password or user name and it is very easy to hijack a router and gain access to one's wireless setup.
