What to do with an Echo Dot that can not be registered
Situation: Bought Echo Dot from WOOT (Amazon's Bargain basement).
Device would not link to wifi. Called Amazon Support. Said I needed valid serial number. The Serial number sticker had been removed, and it did not ship in original box. Without the SN, they could not link to my account.
Contacted WOOT. They immediately knew the problem....this device had been registered or stolen before they acquired it. They gladly refunded my purchase price, and told me not to bother returning it. Sounds like they may have seen this before.
I found a post from someone with the same situation who found a genious way to "trap" the device SN in their browser. When they called Amazon, they were told that, in fact, that was the valid serial number, but since it had been previously registered, unless I knew the previous owner, they would not change the credentials....makes sense.
So...now I have this wonderful hockey puck that has a really neat bluetooth speaker inside. I just wish there was some way to use it. I have been reimbursed, so I am not angry with these folks about , but what to do? Any tech nerds in the group have an idea of how to re-purpose this speaker without the voice commands, Alexa app, or an input jack? This sounds like a GREAT OPPORTUNITY to waste days or weeks to create a $25 speaker.
I hate to send it to China for E-cycling.
