(53 posts)No.
Are there other options that fit your needs better?
Maybe.
You haven't said what you actually want to do with a tablet. They aren't very good for swatting flies.

(16,330 posts)Pros: small, easy to carry anywhere, starts up fast, you can check email and websites quickly, google, etc. You can read kindle books, google books, ibooks. You can play games on it. You can do all this on a phone If you have great eyesight. Great for looking up recipes and having them right in front of you in the kitchen. Long battery life. I like using my hand to make something bigger or smaller. I like watching movies or tv shows on it from anywhere.
Cons: I don't have the one you can print from. But I can send documents to Dropbox or email things to myself to print later. You have one window open at a time. You can go back and forth but if you are the kind of person who switches between tabs or windows, you have to look at only one. I can't really do any real work on mine because of the programs I use. Sometimes I miss the mouse.
There may be a tablet that fits the bill, but I don't have too many cons about the iPad.

(60,010 posts)Instead of being "chained" to the puter here in the den, would be nice to read in bed or work at kitchen table.
I have a nook, which is terrific for bedtime reading, but a more portable bigger reading screen would be nice.
Hmmm...

(3,655 posts)I know, I have one from 2000. It originally had Win2k on it and I upgraded it to XP. I picked it up at a garage sale for $35 w/ a docking station and IR keyboard(Stylistic LT C-500). It has USB ports, ethernet, dialup modem and even a monitor out port to hook it to a full size screen when in the dock. Their current model, the Q550 is comparable to the iPad.The Q550 has the ability to operate off a pen or touch.
I just bought one of their models from 2005(on ebay) which has a ton of features the iPad lacks. Complete units w/dock can be had on ebay for $200 to $300(originally sold for over $2000). The models to look for are the Fujitsu Stylistic St5112 which has Core Duo processor and good graphics. There is also ST6012 model but they are hard to find and are selling for around $600. These models have a 12.1" screen.

(4,541 posts)If those are important, then an Android tablet is another choice. I bought a Toshiba Thrive last year.
