I have a mac pro laptop.

It's great...... except for the word processing program. Word Pad or something.

I'd like to upgrade , probably to Microsoft Word, since that's what I'm used to at work.

So.... how is that done, exactly?

As you've no doubt discerned by now, I'm a technological moron. But I asked three different computer-savvy types and gotten vague and contradictory advice.

Do I download something online?

Do I go somewhere and buy a disk?

Is it free?

If not, how much should I pay?

I'm thinking it can't be this complicated. Or can it?

for about 100 bucks.

Or a java-based version from OpenOffice.org.

And did you get iLife with your Macbook? They have a Word-compatible processing program.

3. What operating system is on your Mac? Lion? Snow Leopard?

If Lion, the download and installation is painless.

If Leopard or Snow Leopard, it is easy, but has a few more steps.

*NO* Mac install is hard.

5. OS X 10.6.8 That's what it's telling me, at least.

Whatever that means.

I think I'll be able to muddle thru at this point.

Thanks for the help.

4. Use Open Office. It is free and more compatible with M$ Word than it is with itself.

It is also seamless between Mac, Win(whatever) and Linux. That's all we use. It's also a shitload faster than the M$ products.
