Expected longevity for a wired USB laser mouse ?
I've had my current mouse for 2.5 years and use it several hours a day. The other day the mouse froze up twice in one day but a reboot cured it each time. The mouse is below:

Got another year or so left in it ?

(45,851 posts)I have a Logitech wireless laser mouse and every so often I have to turn it off and back on when it freezes, it doesn't act that way on every computer though. Mine is about five years old and still works fine other than the occasional freeze.

(49,533 posts)1) Next time it freezes up, try unplugging it from the USB port and then plugging back in, rather than rebooting your whole computer.
2) If that doesn't work, try moving it to another USB port on your computer.
If either/both of the above steps work fine to reset it, then you may want to look for driver updates both for the mouse and your USB controller. Those optical mice are darn near immortal from my experience.

(12,471 posts)mouse for about ten years now. It is the MX1000 mouse. The rechargeable battery died, and I got a new one. Every so often the software craps out on Windows, so I just restart the software with keyboard commands, and I am okay for another month or so.
Your mouse should give you many many years of service. 2.5 years is nothing when it comes to this type of device.
You might find that there are newer drivers for it, and that may help you.

(3,655 posts)I dug them out of the trash bin at work. Someone had switched them off and then someone else tossed them because they didn't work. I like this model. I haven't had any software problems.

(3,220 posts)I've dropped it on a wooden floor hundreds of times during intense Skyrim and Minecraft sessions. It still survives to this day (since summer 2011, and I had to take it somewhat apart and fix it once. It clicks kind of funny now, but it's all because I was so clumsy with it, not a problem with the mouse itself).
