Can you tell me why: My HP PSC # Deskjet 4180 still copies, prints, but will no loner scan?

I do not need the scan function often but I have tried to scan and post a few things on DU and on Craigslist NO Go. Should I un-install the whole thing and reinstall? I hope the machine is not dead, I can't afford another PSC. Cannot figure out what happened.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I uninstalled and then reinstall the software. (twice) but the error message reads, no scanner software/driver

Luckily it still prints fine. So I'm going scanner less for now
