Dell XPS keyboard not working

I was away from my computer for several months (long story) and when I got back home and turned it on, the keyboard didn't function at all. Replaced it and didn't help. The track-pad works as does an external keyboard and mouse. All windows diagnostic tests as well as the F12 boot diagnostics are normal. Driver is OK. Bios is up to date.
Any ideas on where I can look next?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like some toast on the motherboard. Is it still under warranty? HopeHoops Jan 2012 #1

It can't hurt to call (well, other than it's a Dell). I had one serviced over a year out. HopeHoops Jan 2012 #3

Mine's an HP. The screen went totally blank. I called on a Monday, admitted it was out of warranty and asked what to do. They sent a shipping box out overnight. I got it back in the mail (pre-paid by them) on Thursday. Sunday morning (yes, morning), I got an e-mail saying it was ready and had shipped out. It arrived the next morning - less than a full seven days (by a few hours) from when I called.

About six months later, they issued a recall for the exact same problem. Try calling. It might be a chronic problem and it might already be on the recall list - just have the model and serial number (bottom label) ready because they will ask you for both.
