I tried too use Ccleaner, which I had done before.
Nothing.
Just got another error message:
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER45e1.dir00\avgmfapx.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER45e1.dir00\appcompat.txt

I'm confused as heck.

As for the first one, the mdmp part is a clue - I believe that's a memory dump file (m dmp). If it didn't have the extra extension, it could be caused by running another virus checker with AVG. The more likely reason is that it is trying to do a memory dump (what we used to call core dumps) to a device that doesn't have enough space or doesn't have the correct partitions. You can uninstall/reinstall AVG, but I suspect it won't change anything. Check your drive space first. Just use Notepad to open the .txt file and see if it provides any additional information.

avgmfapx.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Maybe it is no big thing and I should just ignore it.
Any ideas why System Restore will not work at any date?

Well, your personal files, e-mail and bookmarks (in the User folder). Time Machine on the Mac works great, but the M$ "restore" isn't always reliable. Just a warning.

Try the uninstall/re-install of AVG first.

Was there anything in the .txt file that added to the situation or was it just a repeat of what you already knew?
