Do you think you could let us know if any suggested fixes worked or not?

It's always good to have some feedback.

1. Good Morning, Sorry not to have replied to those of you who gave me such great help.

No excuse on my part.
I am still getting error messages. I cannot, with my limited knowledge, go fishing in more places to find more things that are wrong. Scares the daylight out of me.

This AM, as soon as I turned on the computer, there was another one. I did not copy it.
I went fishing through options of Revo to see if I could find any leftover parts of AVG and could not figure out if that option is possible. AVG does not show anywhere in the lists of programs in Revo or through the control panel.. It does--in the error messages.

I do think my problem has something to do with the install/uninstall of AVG.

System restore is another problem that I have not yet addressed. I did all the things suggested by you all and still nothing. I used the suggested removal tool.

I don't even dare to take this machine to the computer guy. He said it is too old and he sees no merit in working on it again.

I am going to turn the machine off and restart it to see if I get the same message again. I will try to post it so you can have a look.

2. Have you tried a registry cleaner?

I've gotten rid of Norton leftovers, among other clean up jobs that left active stuff behind.

Worth a try.

3. Yes, I used Ccleaner but i'm still having problems.

Most of the problem lies with this old timer who does not understand much of anything regarding computers.
I plod along and then...crisis...I really try to keep my activity simple.
I know the problem starts with me.
So it goes.
I do not know of any other registry cleaner simple enough so I won't get into more trouble.

4. I use a simple one.

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner on the default settings.

Install

Go to where AVG program files were/are in C:\Program Files and delete whatever files are left in the AVG folder(s) there.

Re-boot and run the Registry Cleaner.

I've been using it for many years.
Windows lets crap pile up in the Registry, which are in reality nothing more than a simple serial data base in the form text files. After a while the files get so big, they slow Windows down, because it takes so long for Windows to find anything. This program clears the dead stuff out.
I run it after deleting programs. Delete unused program, reboot, run the registry cleaner. I have never had a problem with it on any computer.
