Are there any good laptop cooling pads?
I bought one from Best Buy (can't even remember the brand) that died after a few months. It worked ok or so I thought.
Then I ordered an inexpensive one from amazon. It's pretty generic, has three small cooling fans and it worked great. It actually cooled me as well as the laptop.
I use my laptop on the table sometimes but I really like to use it on my lap.
Then one day I lifted the laptop and the cord broke off the fan. Booooooo.
So I got online and ordered another one. The picture and description were exactly the same. I even got a message that I had already ordered one just like it before.
However, when it arrived, it is NOT the same one. Different color, different material, and the worst part is the fans are completely exposed. So if you try to put it on your lap, the blades hit you and either break off or don't spin. I cannot be the only person who uses a laptop on her lap!
I wrote to Amazon simply to ask if they still had the other ones like I got the first time and all they did was refund my money and tell me to send it back. Then they provided the listing for the same item and it still shows the picture of the one I really want. I imagine a warehouse full of these cheap fans and somebody just picks up a box at random.
I have a 17 inc laptop if it matters. The fan I was using was smaller than that but worked well anyway. I tried removing the fan covers from the old one and using them on the new one, but the screws don't work. I could probably super glue them on. But now Amazon wants me to return it. It says if I still want the item, I have to reorder it.
Suggestions? Do I order again and hope I get the one I wanted? Is there a good one that you would recommend?

(34,095 posts)I had a Targus (I think that was the name, could be Tergus) that I used when I had my Mac laptops. My first one heated my legs so badly they looked bruised and then burned my hand when I tried to lift it off my lap. I got another (was trying to fit in with my Mac loving family) and it too was hot but not as much. The fan lasted as long as I could tolerate using a Mac, several more years with my second one. It worked OK, did not fan my legs though so it could still be warmer than I like but it kept my Mac cool.
No need now, my Samsung is sitting on my bare legs and is cool as can be. I don't know what the difference is but my Mac's were hot as could be.
So, Targus (or Tergus) worked for me. Hope you find something.
