Every time I boot up my laptop, a window is asking me to install a Java update.

I clicked on Details and it said:

Program Location: “C:\program files (x86)\Common files\Java\ Java Update\jucheck.exe” – critical

Is this legit, or a virus?

Unless you have a program that actually needs Java, I'd uninstall it. Out of 50 different programs on my main system, only one needed Java and I found a substitute for it and never looked back.

It appears that when java was installed on your computer that notify me when java update is available .

Programlocation you reference is correct, same on my computer. I allow java to update automatically.

Flash used to be in the same category, but newer browsers are using html5 instead. You can turn updates off on the awful java updater, or just ignore it.
