Obama told this story in the video~

Priceless.

Just don't call it Obamacare in red states. Republican governors are trying to take credit for the great, new exchanges being set up in their states by changing the name, like Kentucky Kynect. If people who oppose anything Obama are that silly, have at it.

"A middle-aged man in a red golf shirt shuffles up to a small folding table with gold trim, in a booth adorned with a flotilla of helium balloons, where government workers at the Kentucky State Fair are hawking the virtues of Kynect, the state’s health benefit exchange established by Obamacare. The man is impressed. 'This beats Obamacare I hope,' he mutters to one of the workers."

I hate to burst his bubble, but it IS Obamacare and yes, YOU'RE WELCOME. -Debra

Bono rocked the mic for days at Clinton Global Initiative, impersonating the former president at Tuesday's panel. The U2 frontman, wearing his trademark glasses, adopted Clinton's signature drawl.

The humorous talk "tawk" led in to a serious discussion, featuring Clinton, Bono, who is the the co-founder of AIDS prevention organizations ONE and (RED); Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund; Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook; and other nonprofit leaders. The group discussed the theme of this year's CGI, Mobilizing for Impact, focusing on how creating change requires leveraging resources and creating partnerships.

Continuing his Bill Clinton depiction, Bono brought up Chelsea Clinton's efforts to ramp up AIDS prevention.

"Then, I had Chelsea torture me about all this AIDS stuff, and we got to work on it," Bono carried on. "And the foundation did incredible work. Right now, we've got affordable AIDS drugs for everybody all over the world."

In recognition of this year’s World AIDS Day, U2 singer and global activist Bono is stepping up his fight against HIV/AIDS by personally lobbying American legislators to maintain funding for global AIDS initiatives and awareness. His plea comes at a moment when Washington is embroiled in tensebudget debates over how to avoid the so-called “fiscal cliff” which would trigger automatic spending cuts and tax hikes. Bono showed up in Washington a few weeks after the presidential election to make his case and he didn’t just bring star-appeal, he brought data. His international advocacy organization, The ONE Campaign, recently released a report, warning that despite scientific strides made in combating the pandemic, the United Nation’s goal to achieve the “beginning of the end of AIDS by 2015” will fail if funding is cut to AIDS programs. The report also says financial and political commitment to AIDS efforts from the usual donor countries are varied, with the U.S., U.K. and France leading efforts while Germany, Canada, Japan and Italy lag behind in funding. Bono pushed lawmakers to continue to make AIDS financing a priority. Given the current status, the beginning of the end ofAIDS—defined as when the number of new HIV infections each year is surpassed by the number of people receiving treatment—will not be reached until 2022.

American support is key to reaching the ambitious goals set by the United Nations. When Bono sat down with TIME’s managing editor, Rick Stengel last year, he shared his confidence in the Obama Administration’s financial commitment and praised the U.S’s role in leading efforts to fight the virus. “It is an extraordinary thing that the United States has done, which is in the war against this tiny little virus, which has caused so much destruction and heartache, American leadership has been the turning point,” said Bono in the interview. “Five million lives have been saved around the world because of American leadership.”

Despite the anxiety over whether lack of fiscal support will slow the momentum the movement has already achieved, Bono’s organization, The ONE Campaign and its fundraising division (RED), are continuing to spearhead awareness with a new pop culture initiative coinciding with World AIDS Day on December 1st.

ONE is launching a first-person YouTube video series called “It starts with me,” with video messages and stories from contributors like AIDS activist Cleve Jones and actor Colin Farrell. (RED) has teamed up with Tiesto, a leading electronic music DJ to release a compilation album, DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES with fellow EDM musicians. The album corresponds with a global YouTube livestream from the Stereosonic Festival in Melbourne, Australia.

Wasn't Bono funny impersonating Bill?

I schlepped over to the library again today for the internet and to track my wi-fi signal booster order once more. It went through Colorado for some stoopid reason, then wound up in Michigan later. Now it's finally scheduled for delivery to my home today. While it's better than nothing, I so detest trying to work at the library that I'm going to answer only your OP this morning; tonight I'll put in a long catch-up session at home since everyone knows I don't like to miss a single BOG OP. I'm sooo far behind after 10 days that it takes my breath away. But that's nothing compared to the 150 personal emails I have to wade through.

I've scanned the BOG thread titles, though, and can hardly wait!

However, the super dooper wi-fi signal booster finally arrived today, and with a lot of trial and error I found a place where it actually works, a little better even than before.

It doesn't hurt for now but I'm still working on the old laptop. The Acer Chromebook is factory refurbished, so it didn't come with tech support or a printed manual, and I haven't YET managed to examine the non-internet functions. It works fine at the library where I hate to work, and it won't automatically load the driver for the new booster; so I can't use it at home yet. But in time I'll crack the code and all will be well there too. Just a matter of time and maybe a ton more sweat and tears. Yet I think it will be worth it in the end, and this 8-yr-old laptop will croak eventually.

Unfortunately most of my first internet evening has been spent on catching up on email, signing petitions etc. Let's see how far I can get caught up on DU threads before I crash.
