75-Year-Old Man Bitten, Dragged by Alligator at a Golf Course Pond

http://www.theledger.com/article/20120430/NEWS/120439951/1134?p=2&tc=pg

"Albert Miller, 75, was golfing when the 9-foot alligator pulled him into a pond."

"Gary Morse, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said trappers captured the alligator. It weighed approximately 190 pounds."

Miller was saved by his golf buddies and is fine besides some damage to his knee. Why post this in Weird News? Think about this: The alligator is 9 feet long and weighs 190 pounds?

"A large adult American alligator's weight and length is 800 pounds and 13 feet long, but can grow to 14.5 feet long and weigh over 1,000 pounds. The largest ever recorded was found in Louisiana and measured 19 feet 2 inches."

Alligators longer than 9 feet are almost always males. A 10-foot alligator weighs about 270 pounds, and one 11 feet in length will tip the scales at 400 pounds. Twelve-foot alligators are rare, but these huge individuals will weigh about 475 to 525 pounds. These large, powerful animals are superbly adapted to their environment, according to Rhodes.

5. I see. I was wondering how a 800 pound beast could have slimmed down to 190,

2. My MIL was trying to chase a gator away the other day

from their open garage door. She said he (the gator) ran and she ran, and she forgot to snap any pics. That would have been the least of my worries! She said she yelled to my FIL to run through the house and close the garage door. They put up a fence between their house and their neighbors property and the gator couldn't figure out how to get around it. They had been sitting out there watching the baby gators.
