First responders help pull stuck toddler out of an antique wooden barrel

Two-year-old Dorian Strubing got hopelessly stuck in an antique wooden barrel during a visit to his grandparent’s home in Portland, Tennessee, forcing rescuers to power saw their way through the barrel to free the toddler. Kelly Strubing and her husband rushed little Dorian to the hospital on Saturday, according to WKRN-TV. Summer County Emergency Medical Services and the Portland Fire Department worked alongside doctors and nurses to help free the young child.

Using an X-Ray machine, rescuers were able to identify where the bespectacled boy’s hips, knees and feet were. Luckily, Strubing’s arms, shoulders and head was not stuck inside the barrel allowing for him to hold on to a Teddy bear.

With the help of a power saw, first responders cut the barrel from the bottom and screwdrivers helped open a passage up at the top for Dorian to fit his legs through. They were only able to lift Dorian up through the barrel once his legs were allowed to straighten.

“It was certainly nerve-wracking, but now that he’s safe we all are getting a good laugh from it,” Strubing said to WKRN. Thankfully, Dorian was not injured during the rescue and received a celebratory popsicle stick for his bravery.
