Police say hungry rats are to blame after 1,000 pounds of marijuana vanished in India

The Charlotte Observer
2022/11/25

A half-ton of confiscated marijuana disappeared from a storage room in India — and police are now pointing fingers at tiny, four-legged trespassers.

Police in Mathura, a city about 100 miles south of New Delhi, said rats consumed the sizable stockpile, filled with enough marijuana to roll 1.3 million joints, after a court-mandated that the drugs be produced as evidence in a smuggling trial, according to The National.

“There is no place in the police station where the stored goods can be saved from the rats,” prosecutors said, according to the outlet.

The court, seemingly unconvinced, demanded proof that the rodents had eaten the drugs, which were valued at about $70,000, according to the Times of India. The judge also ordered police to put a stop to the “mice menace.” The police have until Saturday to produce evidence that the rodents are culpable, according to India Today.

So, if rats are eating that stuff, it's probably low quality stuff, low in turpenes. Having done some growing myself, I know that potent cannabis/hemp are rich in turpenes and I have yet to see any animal eat it, even in the field, once it starts producing that element... when plants are about knee-high.

I had to, in an emergency, store fresh cut high grade in a mouse-ridden structure and the mice left within an hour of our placing some stock in there.

So I'm thinking that stuff was either crap, even for hemp, or it "grew" legs and walked out with a little help.

He was charged with a pound and intent to deliver. When it came to trial there was less than one ounce. The explanation, it was destroyed in testing. Yeah, right.

It can be put to many uses around the station like prepared throw-downs and keeping the officers happy.

county sheriff's evidence room. They never found the rat that ate it but there were rumors the sheriff's
spouse was selling it. Don't know what really happened but the sheriff wasn't re-elected.
