Utah Man Finds Beehive Containing An Estimated 60,000 Bees Behind Walls

PROVO, Utah — A homeowner in Provo was shocked to find a beehive with between 60,000 and 80,000 bees behind the wall of the home’s master bedroom.

The bees were likely in the home for about four or five years, but the homeowner had no idea until this weekend.

Tyler Judd owns the home, and he said he first noticed the bees by his chimney this weekend.

“I couldn’t believe it was a couple of inches from where we were sleeping because I didn’t hear anything in our bedroom at all,” he said.

Al Chubak, Utah Bee Removal, said removing this hive on Saturday was different from the hundreds of other hives he’s removed in his career.

“This is an unusual job because when I first arrived they didn’t think the bees were here for long,” he said.

Chubak said the bees were living quite comfortably in the man’s home.

Maybe that woman on TLC's "My Crazy Addiction" that's addicted to bee stings can live here.

We didn't estimate the numbers but they did their homesteading through a little hole under the siding that I didn't realize existed until one day my wife called me at work, that they had bored a hole through the ceiling and were dropping through into the living room.

We had to get the exterminator who only anesticized the wasps, then we had to remove them and the nest after removing part of the ceiling.

I learned that a shop-vac works really great, you get the longest extension and stick it into the swarm and suck them up.

he didn't know that he had 60 to 80 thousand bees in his walls.

That's roughly the equivalent of about 4 healthy hives.

Unless he was hearing impaired, leaning on the wall would have been like leaning on a vibrating mattress.
