1. Exit polls are not reliable in most cases.

We do have some data on those who already voted. Hillary is up by 17% according to the respondents in the NBC poll who've already voted by mail-a small subset and no more or less useful than exit polls.

... what motivated people to vote and what issues were most important to specific demographics. But relying on them to 'true-the-vote' or as a way to cast doubt on the outcome will be a failing strategy.

2. I would think the pollster gets a list from precincts of those who requested/turned in ballots

among actual election day voters, so I would take exit polls from California with a grain of salt.
