Bernie Sanders, Party Crasher: Notes On The [Looming] End Of A Campaign

http://www.npr.org/2016/06/15/481453188/bernie-sanders-party-crasher-notes-on-the-looming-end-of-a-campaign

This is an excellent read.

...
Sanders' experience in Southern California offers glimpses into everything that went right — and wrong — for his campaign. In more ways than one, at Lynwood and in Santa Monica and all throughout the primary season, Sanders was a party crasher. Sometimes that worked out for him. And sometimes it did not.

This week marked the final presidential nominating contest for the Democratic Party, in Washington, D.C. Bernie Sanders lost. And he isn't throwing in the towel just yet, he says. But Sanders also says he can do "arithmetic." And that math shows he did not get enough votes or delegates to be the Democratic nominee. (He trails Clinton by millions in the Democratic popular vote, and hundreds in party's delegate count, with or without superdelegates.) Hillary Clinton was declared the "presumptive nominee" last week, and she is now campaigning as one would expect a presumptive party nominee to campaign, complete with the endorsement of a sitting President. It'd be fair to say that the only thing keeping Bernie Sanders' campaign alive is that he hasn't yet said it is dead.
...
In many ways, the Sanders campaign was a love revolution, with a message of unity, diversity and prosperity for all. But under the surface, the Sanders' movement was just as much an exercise in anger.
...
It was a moment that, in several ways, could symbolize Sanders' entire campaign — a victory and a defeat, all at the same time. And, in spite of it all, a dogged determination to keep pressing ahead — and to seemingly never, ever admit you've lost.

with Darren McGavin is another of my faves to watch at Xmastime. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Story

I also love Chevy Chase and "the Griswolds" in "National Lampoon's European Vacation." I remember staying in a London hotel in the 1980s that was just like the one the Griswolds stayed in - complete with shared bathroom down the hall!

The rest of the film is a hoot too - and a flashback to more innocent days in foreign travel.

that Sparky videotaped (and what was later stolen - lol) was priceless. She played such an adorable character.

But the kids, too, were incredibly funny; daughter pining for her boyfriend back home and being reminded of him when she looks at a particularly large sausage; Rusty catching that a couple at a nearby table were "about to do it" - and they get into it right after. lol Very funny.

the get-go. OWS, a failed attempt to...whatever they were trying to do, fizzled out just like Sanders' campaign after a fiery start. Angry is not an attractive message to have. Common sense and strategy wins the day. Sadly, that's something Sanders, his campaign, and his most fanatical followers couldn't understand.

Edited to add:

Winnie Wong, founder of the online group People for Bernie, is one of the former Occupy Wall Street activists who helped draft Bernie Sanders to run. And she said Sanders actually wasn't the first senator activists approached.

"We started the Draft [Elizabeth] Warren effort first," she told NPR. "Ready for Warren came out of Occupy. And People for Bernie came out of Ready for Warren."

Wong is not shy about identifying Sanders and his candidacy as a tool to get Occupy Wall Street ideals into the mainstream. "It was always a tactic," she said at a Sanders rally in San Francisco. "In every way, at every step of the way."

everyone else look bad and hiding his actual record. But, the Americans voters said NO.. we don't want you.

And there was a stop at Plaza Mexico, an outdoor market that caters to a primarily Latino audience in Lynwood, a bit south of LA. Once Sanders arrived, with traveling press in tow, he walked through the crowded mall, which happened to be hosting a music festival that day. After shaking hands and hugging fans, Sanders tried to take the main stage of the festival. As he and his entourage approached the side of the stage, he was denied by several of the event staff. There were vigorous head shakes of disagreement and, as a female event staffer pulled a barricade closer to keep Sanders and his crew out, she said, angrily, "This is our event."

Adios, burnie

caught up pimping Orangeglow to be bothered with reporting the real news. Then again, U.$. Media have always gone after the Clintons with a vengeance. It's what we get when billionaires and their pals can buy up our cable, broadcast, and radio stations, leaving us with no true 4th Estate outside of social media - something Republicans have been fighting to tear away as well.

But thanks to the appellate court yesterday, their attempts to buy up our internet and decide what we get to hear and read was defeated by the Obama Admin! WoooHOOOO! I'm certain President Obama knows fully well how skewed the traditional M$M have become and stopped them dead in their tracks from taking over the only resource you and I and others turn to to get real news!

And although this is good news, we can't really celebrate yet since AT&T vows to take it to the U.S. Supreme Court - hence another solid reason to ensure we have Hillary Clinton in the White House so we'll either get Merrick Garland on the bench before then or another justice of her choosing, and that she can nominate the replacements for Bader-Ginsberg, Breyer, and possibly also, Kennedy! THEN we can crow ever loudly and ever happily that we've finally shattered that thick but cracked glass ceiling and that there'll be justice for ALL!

But yes, President Obama deserves the credit for fighting discrimination against our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, and for stopping billionaire propagandists from buying up and controlling our internet use, and for his fiery condemnation of Orangeglow's anti-Muslim rhetoric because of what happened in Orlando.
