Hillary Clinton returned to Iowa Monday for a one-day campaign visit, where she addressed campus sexual assault for the first time since hitting the trail.
Her proposals, which she outlined at University of Northern Iowa, were in line with initiatives that have been proposed by President Barack Obama, as well as the Campus Accountability and Safety Act, a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Sen. Claire McCaskill, Kirsten Gillibrand, Dean Heller -- and even Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio and Sen. Chuck Grassley, who has been leading an investigation into Clintons use of email at the State Department. The bill is currently pending in Congress.
Speaking from behind a Women for H sign, Clinton said that sexual assault had a huge impact on young womens lives, noting that it causes some to drop out, some never finish their education." Rape is a crime wherever it happens, she said. Schools have an obligation -- a legal obligation and a moral obligation -- to protect every students right to get an education free from discrimination, free from fear.
She called the issue deeply important to me, to try and work together with everybody, to bring about the changes necessary in behavior and attitude, to try and confront the continuing challenge of violence against women, and in particular, here on campuses....
