(11,417 posts)A new reason for me to not want Bernie in the White House is his supporters. Are they going to be his advisers? He says it isn't he who is going to change things but his followers. I see them as like toughs who want to enforce their ideals on people. It scares me. I never thought "progressives" could be so mean.

(55,144 posts)AUTOMATED MESSAGE: Results of your Jury Service
On Thu Oct 8, 2015, 04:04 AM an alert was sent on the following post:
Bigots will be bigots.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1107&pid=20559
REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
I don't see how to read this post other than saying that it's bigoted to openly disagree with John Lewis over his endorsement of Clinton. I'm tired of DUers and others being attacked as bigots for obvious and reasonable political differences, I hope that you are too.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Oct 8, 2015, 04:15 AM, and the Jury voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Bad alert. This is about what is written on a politician's Facebook page. There is no reason that the poster can't give his opinion about it.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This is an Alert that is simply trolling to get hides from a Hillary supporter. The OP is correct to make the point that people are harassing anyone who simply endorses a Democratic candidate. John Lewis is AA. Some of those who attack the endorsement are bigots. Bigots will be bigots. The logic of the alerter is flawed to assume that EVERYONE is attacking DUers a bigots - and the behavior of alerting on this logic is most likely an unwarranted attack on a specific person - in fact a personal attack. The alerter should be banned.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No, not going to hide. Stop alert trolling, this has nothing to do with DU.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I visited the FB page in question... and didn't see the posting that this person may have seen. It's entirely possible that some comment on that page was offensive and therefore the response about the "bigots". I think its wrong to call people who respectfully disagree with his endorsement "bigots" in general. however I will let this comment stand simply because it may be an angry response to something someone wrote on fb that was out of bounds.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The post is referring to a FB page, right? I guess I don't see how that's attacking DUers.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

That great american put his life on the line for freedom and he paid a price for it too.
John Lewis is a living, breathing American hero!

(46,698 posts)This has always been a race between the status quo vs. populace change.
In other words, between established representatives vs. ordinary people.
I'm not saying that as a cut to either Hillary or John Lewis. It's just a reality.

(16,104 posts)John Lewis abandoned Hillary and for some reason fully endorsed Obama in 2008.
I'm sure some quarters of DU were anticipating a similar outsider endorsement from the civil rights icon. This man who gave his blood and committed his life to standing up for others.
It would have been a game-changing endorsement - but seriously, would Rep. Lewis abandon his own Democratic Party to commit to someone who is still only considered an opportunist Democrat by many of us? Who spent most of his life running against and denouncing Democrats?
Please - it was never going to happen, Chafee!

Cha
(297,119 posts)I certainly wouldn't go into that group and start talking about Hillary.
The Groups have Mission Statements.. and we have to abide by them.
If they're not here to support Hillary then they're disrupting.
yallerdawg
(16,104 posts)and several posters are unaware of this as a "Hillary Group" post and maybe unaware of the group concept of "safe haven."
Then there are the real assholes who want to disrupt DU who are gaming the rules just to burn it all down.
That's what I find so offensive, by the way.

I'm really not getting this "you're white, you get to have no opinion about african amercan figures/events/history, or if your hold one against the gestalt SHAME *ringring*" thing, maybe it's just me. Some of those people are shitty, some of every slice of people are shitty. If we start basing our judgements on "some of those people are assholes so none of them count." We're stepping backwards.

(19,460 posts)I am also sorry that you just don't get it. No amount of explaining to you will do any good if you can not see what PoC see. You might post your question in the AA forum and see if that helps.

(2,975 posts)I've shown them to the AA forum as point of reference for my experience with this and resources ive been directed to from there. Yeah, John Lewis isn't "tarnishing" anything.. it's this joker on FB who's "tarnished"..
JackInGreen
(2,975 posts)But I'm not seeing hate.
unless questioning his decision is hateful, in which case every authority figure I've encountered and questioned or challenged must think I hate them. As to what a few jack-asses opinions, I've seen a lot of vitriol in this primary from every side, but I've yet to one person (or a dozen) that were a good representative of the rest of their side.

John Lewis, a "Democrat", is not going to endorse an outsider, so BS & Chafee were never going to be an option. He has "Democratic" constituents to answer to. BS is polling in single digits with Af Am "Democrats" in GA. John Lewis obviously isn't impressed with BS, nor am I.

He has been one of the most influential politicians, not just influential black politicians, for decades.
Who in this country today has worked harder and longer for the rights of black Americans AND all Americans than John Lewis? I really can't think of anyone.
Even if I disagreed with him I wouldn't have the chutzpah to go on HIS facebook page to tell him. But if I did, I would be respectful instead of post some of those rude comments we see there.
He should be respected, not criticized.
