The Force Was With Hillary Clinton in the 3rd Democratic Debate
By Ed Kilgore
1. Spinoff earned-media winner: Clinton.
The moment that will almost certainly be replayed the most in the brief period of interest in this low-viewership debate was Clinton's corny but perfectly timed shout-out to the new Star Wars movie at the very end. It was a good example of how a prefab line can match or exceed the impact of any dynamic interaction between candidates. Somebody on Team Clinton deserves a light saber for Christmas.
As for HRC, she's already regained the "inevitability" factor she came into the Invisible Primary carrying. Even if Sanders somehow wins Iowa and New Hampshire, Clinton still has a far more plausible path to the nomination, thanks to her standing in the many states that are not as honkified and activist-dominated as the first two. But the whole world will still be watching her for a stumble. It did not happen at St. Anselm's College.

Disney and Koch industries have one major thing in common, they both use E&Y to dodge US Taxes!
How much of this movie's profits will get parked offshort at 0.75% tax, while lobbying for a tax amnesty to repatriate it?

(32,342 posts)Everyone is getting Star Wars stuff for Xmas this year. I'm in favor of raising their taxes and measures to prevent offshoring though. One can walk and chew gum at the same time.

(360 posts)a bit more this time. The last time she was interrupted and Sanders got a lot of time. That was also the debate where she was tripled team as the moderator was favoring Sanders.

Thank you, good night, and may the force be with you, she said to applause.

Clintons comment was seemingly an echo of President Obama, who on Friday wrapped up an hour-long end-of-the-year press conference by saying, OK, everybody, I got to get to 'Star Wars.
He was heading to a screening of the film being hosted by first lady Michelle Obama at the White House that afternoon for families of service members.
