Clinton aide: Watchdog colluding with Republicans on emails

A spokesman for Hillary Clinton on Wednesday said an inspector general who found highly classified emails on the former secretary of States private server was colluding with congressional Republicans smear the Democratic presidential front-runner.
Actually, I think this was a very coordinated leak yesterday, Brian Fallon said on CNNs New Day.
He said the inspector general issued a similar report in August and was upset when his findings were called into question.
So he put two Republican senators up to sending him a letter so that he would have an excuse to resurface the same allegations he made back in the summer that have been discredited," Fallon said, adding that "Republicans are continuing to try to trump it up and resurface these allegations for the purpose of hurting her campaign.
Tuesday's report, issued by the intelligence communitys internal watchdog, Inspector General I. Charles McCullough III, found emails on Clintons server marked special access programs (SAP), a classification level above top secret and restricted on a need-to-know basis.
To date, I have received two sworn declarations from one [intelligence community] element, McCullough said in a letter to Congress. These declarations cover several dozen emails containing classified information determined by the IC element to be at the CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET, and TOP SECRET/SAP levels.
Fallon dismissed the report, saying it rehashed an inter-agency dispute about whats classified and whats not.
The State Department has attested that these emails that were on Hillary Clintons system were not classified at the time they were sent or received, he said.
The inspector general said he found several dozen emails containing classified information in his review, but Fallon said the dispute may boil down to a single email in which Clinton forwarded a New York Times article.
But, interestingly, there was a very important report last night by Politico that suggested that whats at issue here is just a forwarding of a New York Times article on the drone program that was being conducted in Pakistan, he said.
I think most Americans if they saw the actual emails would agree that it is a fabrication to suggest that the forwarding of a news article should be treated as a mishandling of classified information, he added.
Fallon also said the inspector general is being intentionally vague about which emails were classified.

(43,979 posts)The MSM is so damn lazy, they never bother to get beyond the surface.
I wish there were some Woodward/Bernstein type investigative reporters who would dig more deeply into these stories.

(69,708 posts)these two tweets showed up. One on top of the other. One was published yesterday and one today. In the meantime there were several threads here on DU bouncing -wrongly-once again on Hillary. And of course other nasty RW websites picked up the original story--as this article points out--originally put out by of course FOX NEWS.
Will we never learn NOT to trust them-maybe give it a day before jumping on the RW fox news story??? Just saying.

Officials: New Top Secret Clinton Emails "Innocuous"

by Ken Dilanian
The classified material included in the latest batch of Hillary Clinton emails flagged by an internal watchdog involved discussions of CIA drone strikes, which are among the worst kept secrets in Washington, senior U.S. officials briefed on the matter tell NBC News.
The officials say the emails included relatively "innocuous" conversations by State Department officials about the CIA drone program, which technically is considered a "Special Access Program" because officials are briefed on it only if they have a "need to know." .....................
On Tuesday, Sen. Feinstein, ranking Democrat on the intelligence committee, criticized the original Fox News story about the Inspector General's letter as partisan, and said "none of the emails that are alleged to contain classified information were written by Secretary Clinton."
"None of the emails that were sent to Secretary Clinton were marked as including classified information, a requirement when such information is transmitted," said Feinstein, who is backing Clinton for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.
The description of the emails as relatively innocuous came from officials, including a senior U.S. intelligence official, who believe Inspector General McCullough has been unfair to Clinton in his handling of the issue. They say McCullough and Congressional Republicans have elevated a mundane dispute about classification into a scandal. ......................

(1,901 posts)going on, and they don't even notice they're totally tools of the right wing, with all the debunked talking points they indulge in.
I think it's just how they try to justify their visceral, media generated hatred of this woman who they cannot stand for reasons that have nothing to do with the issues or the policies, at play.
