Sanders bows to the establishmentAfter several days of heat over his dismissal of several key liberal interest groups, the Vermont senator tries to remind voters of his record of support for abortion rights.

ROCHESTER, N.H. On Friday, Bernie Sanders finally bowed down to the establishment.
Three days after getting himself in hot water with several key liberal constituencies by dismissing Planned Parenthood, NARAL and the Human Rights Campaign as "part of the establishment," Sanders gave ground on the point, releasing a statement highlighting the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and singing the praises of "Planned Parenthood, NARAL and all Americans who have been fighting the never-ending attacks on womens right to choose."
His remarks followed a day after his first attempt to quell the furor on the left over his initial remark, which was meant to downplay his inability to win the formal endorsements of the prominent progressive groups.

(1,968 posts)As you know, Planned Parenthood made its first ever Primary endorsement for the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.
Mrs. Clinton has been a solid supporter of Planned Parenthood and women's rights for decades, particularly for women of color and less economically advantaged women who, on average, require Planned Parenthood's services on a more frequent basis than more well-off women would.
It's certainly true that Senator Sanders has voted for women's rights, but he has failed to invest the time, energy, money, and personal resources that Mrs. Clinton has--in addition to her Administrative work as Secretary of State in favor of women's rights.
Thank you so much for Bernsplaining why this is some grand conspiracy instead of a decade-long legacy. Unfortunately, I'm more convinced by the reality of Mrs. Clinton's work.
I'm certain your future posts in the Hillary Clinton group will spread the positive energy of rainbows and butterflies among us and that this criticism in a candidate group was simply a momentary lapse of judgement.

(765 posts)PP laid out its reasons for supporting Clinton pretty clearly. Sanders' had a fit and he (and his supporters) came across as believing he was entitled to that endorsement. He treats reproductive rights like an afterthought, unlike Clinton. This whole incident helped me make up my mind about who to vote for in the primary.
The membership voting thing is a strawman. I could do the same thing by pointing out that you would've been singing the praises of PP, about how daring and progressive they were, if they'd endorsed Sanders in the same way. See how that kind of thing works?
Celebrate your candidate's endorsements and accomplishments instead of beating up anyone and everyone who supports someone else.
