This is where the adults must hang out

Does anyone else read DU these days and feel like they are back in college sitting around a dorm room and listening to your idealistic roommate talk?

"He's going to change the world, man! Pass the bong."

Don't you know that Skinner and Elad are cringing. I take comfort in the realization that the owners of this place are adults who are waiting out the madness. I can see Skinner having daily conversations where the term "crazy" and "oh my god" are often uttered.

It'll pass.

There were so many kindred souls. I do think that a lot of the dimwits will drift away as the reality of Bernie's campaign becomes clearer and people realize that Bernie has no plan to implement his pipe dreams other than shouting "political revolution".

The more experienced and knowledgeable would kindly correct me or help me understand Democratic policy. These days, just mentioning you're a Democrat (before Sanders had to become one in order to register in New Hampshire, that is) will have you excoriated and negatively labeled.

I weep for my sanctuary and what it's become.

I've been coming here daily since 2/2001 for sanity. Hell, my screen name is from Jesse Jackson's speech in 2000 telling us to Stay out of the Bushes. DU was a place for ALL democrats to come and feel safe. I know that today we have a huge number of anti-Dems who masquerade as Dems. Most will go away. The progressives who have gone off the deep end for a while will even out and realize that Clinton isn't the enemy. DU will find equilibrium once again.

Until that time we shall laugh and drink coffee over here while Mardi Gras happens over there. Ash Wednesday is coming and people are going to have to sober up.

I'm getting some more coffee and will read the paper.

... the one that's impossible to reach, while ignoring all the delicious slightly smaller apples that are within easy reach.

All the things that ARE possible will rot on the tree because people would rather waste time... their pride and greed and an unwillingness to accept reality will lead to failure.

But, hey, "at least they tried," eh? No compromise! No "settling" for the smaller accomplishments.

I guess that's one way to put a positive spin on total failure.

It's a selfish and short-sighted approach.

Right? Also a Grover Norquist approach.

To extend that metaphor, they would stare at the apple at the top of the tree while abandoning the road blocks keeping the loggers out of the grove.

I'm more concerned with the Supreme court than the idealism of single payer. If we lose the presidency then we lose the supremes for a generation. This is no game.

I also agree about the USSC. Can you imagine having another Scalia or Thomas?

I've seen many posts from the fringe left that appear to be suggesting that such a thing would be "good for" the country. Apparently to "teach us a lesson" and to be the spark for the "real revolution" to come. (WTF?) I'm guessing that in their minds, the only way to achieve perfection is to start over from scratch.

That's like someone burning down their house, their belongings and their pets, because the house had leaky plumbing and they thought it would be better to start over instead of fixing the leak.

Not to mention the swarms of supporters attending Sanders campaign rallies are "Happenings" like in the 60s-70s...they go to be part of the energy with others like themselves, and few really seem to understand what is really at stake.
