Republican Party Slams Tammy Duckworth, Veteran Who Nearly Gave Her Life for America


In a now-deleted tweet, the National Republican Senatorial Committee wrote that Representative Tammy Duckworth — who lost both her legs serving her country in Iraq — “has a sad record of not standing up for veterans.”



Duckworth served as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot and suffered severe combat wounds, losing both of her legs and damaging her right arm. She was the first female double amputee from the war. After returning home, she served in the National Guard for ten years. Duckworth retired from the Army in October 2014.

She also served as the Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs from 2009 to 2011, and has a record of fighting for our vets. “After she lost her legs in service to her country, she still served 10 more years in the Illinois National Guard,” says Michael Terranova, a Marine Corps veteran from Chicago in an ad supporting Duckworth’s Senate race.
