Hillary misspoke and she corrected her statement and is deeply sorry.
For those of you that don't know I was diagnosed with full blown AIDS back in 2005 and was not expected to leave the hospital alive. Since then I have never been considered HIV+ but someone living with AIDS.
I am not holding it against her for the simple fact when President Clinton & Hillary took Washington D.C by storm in 1993, we immediately saw a drastic increase in AIDS funding and the Clinton White house even started the first ever AIDS task force that worked in the White House.
No, I won't hold her misspoke against her.
Anyone who tries to take advantage of this for nefarious reasons, is worse than what they are trying to make Hillary out to be.
Thank God for the Clinton's initiative back in the 90's. If not for them, myself & many of my brethren would not be here today.

(5,044 posts)I still wear my silver red ribbon bracelet to this day. I've lost too many people to not keep my focus on who the real enemy is here. The 90's were essential to the survival of many of my friends!

(13 posts)Sending you love, William.
I lost dear ones to AIDs in the 80's. I also know the difference that the Clintons made in the fight against AIDS.
Hillary misspoke. However, there is no question where her heart is with the issue of AIDS and LGBT people. A misstatement does not in some strange way change the commitment she has to our community. Her clear and simple, direct apology is evidence of that.
Oddly enough, it gives us a moment to give her some love back. To acknowledge the depth of her connection to us, to those we have lost, and to those that we love.
So, thank you for your apology, and thank you for your support, Hillary.

(67,782 posts)....they refused to even admit that existed at all. For years there was zero funding for AIDS research, and they finally recognized that AIDS was a serious problem once a heterosexual young boy, Ryan White, was diagnosed with AIDS.
It was almost like they all said, "you mean it can happen to US too???"
It wasn't until the very end of the Reagan Administration, and much more so once Bill Clinton too office, that the Federal Government took serious action to advance research and a cure.
Anyone who faults Hillary Clinton for her error are just refusing to acknowledge history and the record of the Clinton Administration, AND the abject failure of the Reagan Administration.

I so appreciate your input. People are not perfect. They misspeak. I give Sec Clinton credit for quickly correction and apologizing for her misstatement.

(10,406 posts)I lost my brother to AIDs on January 1st, 1987. It was the Reagan Admisitration's policies that made it illegal for his doctors in Atlanta to give him AZT. His doctors broke the law in order to give him the drug in a last ditch effort to save his life. He succumbed to the disease despite their valiant efforts.
I hated Reagan then and I hate him now. It wasn't until Bill Clinton became president that so many restrictions were loosened up on treatment for AIDs and it was brought front and center in the American conscious. The Clinton Foundation has continued the fight against this horrible disease across the world. While Hillary made a mistake with her comments, I do believe she was sincere when she made her apology. I still support her and she supports me and us. She always has and she always will.
For all our friends and family we have lost to AIDs.
And for all us and our friends and family living with AIDs

(3,825 posts)Having lost my brother, even tho he was a brother in law, he was my brother whom I loved dearly to AIDS in 1993, this was not malicious, not like the evil that was perpetrated on the gay community by the Reagan administration and thousands of lives and families that were forever changed. We are better for it by having her as our champion.

(11,252 posts)She was clearly wrong and she stepped up and applogized. To see people supposedly in our side try and exploit it truly sickens me, especially when you look at the bigger picture.
Thank you - yet again - for being a voice of reason and sanity on this site! And please stay well!
