snips from the article
Mrs. Clinton lacks some of the extraordinary gifts for connection and empathy that her husband possesses, and the round-table events that have characterized her early campaign can feel stage-managed. But even these settings are producing revealing moments, as Mrs. Clinton finds herself far from the world of international diplomacy and scrambling to re-educate herself about the nation she hopes to lead.
A lot has changed since Mrs. Clinton left domestic politics to become the secretary of state: Student debt has ballooned, access to credit has tightened, and the cause of income inequality has taken on a forceful momentum.
Ever an eager student, she has immersed herself in dense briefing papers and academic tomes and consulted more than 200 experts as she thought about her economic policy. But now, as the campaign faces pressure to reveal specific policy proposals, Mrs. Clinton has 35 million more advisers also known as the Democratic primary electorate.

Bryce Smith, a 23-year-old owner of a bowling alley near Des Moines, told Mrs. Clinton that his biggest challenge in starting a business was his $40,000 in student loans affecting his access to credit. I went for education in college so I could teach, but I fell in love with bowling, Mr. Smith said. So thats my biggest thing, is the barrier of entry and financing.
Mrs. Clinton lit up. We all know about the student loan debt, but Ive never heard anyone so persuasively link it to the slowdown in business start-ups, she said. Youve given me an insight that nobody else has and Im grateful to you, she told Mr. Smith.

(19,460 posts)You don't get ideas by talking to the press. You don't get ideas ranting and raving on TV. You don't get ideas going on every talk show that will have you just so they can ask about your emails. You get ideas when you listen to the people you want to govern.

(30,058 posts)To hear some speak the Clintons has always had their current assets. They sure did not have lots of money when they arrived in Arkansas, the office if governor only paid $35,000 in 1992, this was not a large salary. Hillary was working for a law firm and as you can see she was the bread winner. The Clintons lived reality, even though Hillary worked for a law firm she had to build cliental in order to make money. They also had student loans. They know reality. When Bill Clinton was president he made $200,000 a year, yes, there was lots of reality in the Clinton household. Yes, he was the president of the US and the two has amassed lots since he left the presidency. They have also given lots to others who needed assistance through the CGI. Complain all they want, the Clintons knows how it is to live frugal.

(16,104 posts)I always picture him as a fighter and an analytical technocrat. Al Gore was the perfect encore!
But that's just me!
In fact, I think this Hillary Clinton is the real Hillary Clinton. She is an intelligent analytic careful but warm and caring person at the same time. We have always seen it except when she is engaging (battling) the adversarial press.
The idea she goes out and listens to the people she wants to represent, is developing policies and focus issues, rather than lecturing people and repeating tired old clichés is very positive for us!
Sure the rich suck. We already know that.
Now what are we going to do about it?
