The Colombian government is reportedly going to deploy drones to monitor the country's oil pipelines from attacks by left-wing rebl group, FARC.

The government will deploy an unspecified number of drones to keep watch over the Caño Limon-Coveñas pipeline in the northeastern department of Boyaca, and the 190-mile Trans-Andean pipeline in the south-western Nariño department. Both pipelines are owned by Colombia's largest oil company, Ecopetrol.

The unmanned aircraft known as drones will spearhead the government's task to prevent attacks on mining infrastructure throughout Colombia.

Both the FARC and Colombia's second largest rebel group, the ELN, have recently carried out attacks on energy infrastructure.
