Afro-Caribbean Festival in Cuba Highlights Haitian Traditions

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Mar 31 (Prensa Latina) The magic-religious vudu ceremony was the most attractive activity in the 14th National Afro-Caribbean Festival Eva Gaspar in memoriam, which is being held in Cuban central province.
The ceremony took place at Sabicu Haitian community, located north-eastern Ciego de Avila province, in which they offer food to their gods through sacrifices of animals, dances, and chants, and rites.
The traditional event concludes today and gathers more than 300 participants and about 20 Haitian music and dance representative groups from different Cuban provinces.
The groups invited to the event include Bantu yoruba, Abbureye, Cabildo Cimarron, Ireme, Barranca, Mecongo, Leyenda Folk, Caidige, Bungagua Laeye, Renovacion haitiana, Yasmel, Lokosia, and Obba Ache.
The Afro Caribbean festival is organized by the Caribbean House of Santiago de Cuba and the Haitian Embassy in Havana, and it is annually held in Sabicu because it si the largest community of Haitian natives and descendants in the central Cuban region.
