Russians report structural faults in Caracas-based housing complex

Improper pouring of concrete for piles and floors translated into structural faults in seven buildings that were under construction in Ciudad Tiuna, southwest Caracas. Repairs in four of those buildings were completed by the Russian Foundation for Housing Construction. Repairs in the other three buildings are likely to be completed in three weeks, said engineers Vitaly Kryuchkov and Ricardo Rodríguez, the director and manager of the bilateral foundation, respectively.

The Russian Foundation for Housing Construction is a Russia-Venezuela body entrusted by Venezuelan authorities with the construction of Ciudad Tiuna.

Kryuchkov also admitted the country faces shortage of raw material for construction.

Ciudad Tiuna faces several problems, including insecurity, which started after the people who lost their homes during the rainy season of 2010 moved in. "Raw materials are stolen everyday; watchmen are tied up and with their own vehicles they (thieves) take anything they want," Kryuchkov said.
