Chile poll shows Bachelet winning presidential election

Chile poll shows Bachelet winning presidential election
By The Associated Press August 29, 2013 2:10 PM

SANTIAGO, Chile - Former President Michelle Bachelet has an overwhelming lead in the campaign ahead of Chile's Nov. 17 presidential election.

Top polling company CEP says that 44 per cent of those surveyed said they'd like to see the centre-leftist Bachelet return to office. Twelve per cent backed rival Evelyn Matthei.

CEP polled 1,306 people between July and August. The margin of error is three percentage points.

Bachelet and Matthei were childhood friends whose fathers became top generals on opposite sides of the country's deep political divide.
