Venezuelan gov't rules out repatriation from Syria

http://www.eluniversal.com/nacional-y-politica/130905/venezuelan-govt-rules-out-repatriation-from-syria

About 40 Syrian-Venezuelans have arrived in Venezuela, while others are stranded

Since the rebellion against Syria's President, Bashar al-Asad broke out in March, 2011, the Venezuelan Government has ruled out the repatriation of 700 citizens of Venezuelan origin from Syria. Currently, many of those families undergo an ordeal.

Since the beginning of war in Damascus, Syria's capital, in July, 2012, Latin American governments have adopted several measures, for instance, to speed up the exit of their nationals from Syria, and evaluating massive evacuation plans. However, Venezuela has not implemented that strategy.

Until August this year, about 40 Syrian-Venezuelans have arrived in Venezuela since October 2012, some of them in extreme poverty, while others are still trapped in Syria.

Syrians are the largest immigrant group of Arabic origin in Venezuela, with 12,108 residents, according to the 2011 census.

but there is still a difference between developing personal relationsips and celebrating them (the welcome sign) vs. casual encounters at international forums.
