"
Nicolás) Maduro says he is even going to fast for peace in Syria. Why not fasting for peace in Venezuela? Why not doing something to reduce violence?" opposition leader Henrique Capriles asked on his live web show Venezuela Somos Todos ("Venezuela is all of us"
Governor of Miranda state and leader of the opposition, Henrique Capriles Radonski supported Pope Francis' initiative of a world day of prayer and fasting for peace in Syria, but he underscored his criticism against President Nicolás Maduro for his concern about war in another country and not for the number of violent deaths registered in Venezuela.
The governor highlighted that in Venezuela's capital district, and only last August, more than 500 killings were recorded. "In Venezuela there is neither a civil war nor a conflict like in other countries; however, we live in one of the most violent countries on planet," Capriles stressed.
"The Government does not say a word about this situation. (Nicolás) Maduro even says he is to fast for peace in Syria. Why not fasting for peace in Venezuela? Why not doing something to reduce violence?," Capriles asked on his live web show Venezuela Somos Todos ("Venezuela is all of us"
. He added that between 1999 and 2013, according to figures disclosed by NGO Venezuelan Violence Observatory, more than 170,000 killings have been recorded.
