Venezuelan minister asks for actions against El Universal

http://www.eluniversal.com/nacional-y-politica/131120/venezuelan-minister-asks-for-actions-against-el-universal

Venezuelan Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace Miguel Rodríguez Torres thinks that the government should take action against daily newspaper El Universal for releasing on Wednesday on its front page a photo of a blood stain after a crime. He made such remarks to TV channel Venevisión.

The photo shows blood remains and the arm of the victim who was killed by his kidnappers. The minister encouraged the family members of the deceased to sue the newspaper as well.

"This photo undoubtedly deserves a lawsuit against the daily newspaper and we will make a great effort to make it happen," he said.

"They make headlines of the enabling law, yet posted the photo of blood and the arm of a citizen who was killed while kidnapped (...) That does not occur anywhere else in the world, but in El Universal," Rodríguez pointed out.

So basically, the government is punishing anyone who publishes anything that reveals the harsh reality that Venezuelans have to deal with every day. Yeah, VERY democratic attitude right there

The crony takeover of Cadena Capriles claims its first big scalp. Omar Lugo has just been fired from his job as Editor of El Mundo Economía y Negocios for the grievous offence of…copying data from the BCV’s website and pasting it onto the front page of his newspaper.
