O'Hare approved for Cuba flights

O'Hare approved for Cuba flights
By Paul Merrion
April 20, 2012

(Crain's) — Flights to and from Cuba can now use O'Hare International Airport, the Department of Homeland Security announced Friday.

Previously, direct flights between the U.S. and Cuba had to use JFK Airport in New York, Los Angeles International Airport or Miami International Airport.

Last January, President Barack Obama announced several measures to ease travel restrictions on Cuba, including access to additional U.S. airports.

O'Hare is one of 16 additional airports approved for direct flights to and from Cuba, and the only one in the Midwest.
