Central American nations vow to end regional trade barriers
Dec 13,2013

PANAMA CITY, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Trade ministers from Central American nations on Thursday called for lifting regional trade barriers, which, they said, raised costs of cargo transportation and handling.

Addressing at a meeting of the Council of Ministers for Central American Economic Integration (Comieco), Panamanian Trade and Industry Minister Ricardo Quijano said the region has to find a way to get closer to the transportation costs in Europe and North American countries, which have more efficient transportation systems.

Quijano highlighted issues in which the region' s countries have to work to facilitate trade, including reconciling customs differences, analyzing procedures and considering sanitary regulations.

He also acknowledged the region lacks regulation and evaluation on milk and pharmaceutical products.
