Guatemala judge grants vice-president restraining order against critical journalist

Guatemala judge grants vice-president restraining order against critical journalist
By The Associated Press January 2, 2014 9:00 PM

GUATEMALA CITY - A Guatemalan journalist is filing a series of legal complaints against a judge's decision to grant the country's vice-president a temporary restraining order against him.

Journalist Jose Zamora said Thursday he has filed six legal challenges against the decision and plans to file another six in the near future.

Zamora is the editor of the newspaper El Periodico and in recent months has published several articles critical of Vice-President Roxana Baldetti, accusing her of corruption and nepotism.

A judge in December ordered Zamora to stay away from Baldetti and her family for six months after the official filed a harassment complaint against him.

for 20+ years. Prior to El Periodico he was owner/editor of Siglo 21 and has been very active against government corruption. A certain persona who resides in Guatemala was dismissive of the press there and labeled them right wing and said there were never any articles about RIos Mont and atrocities in the "right wing" press. I easily showed her claim was not accurate. You can see some of the posts about this including from Judi who was also dismissive of the press. Its the same Zamora as this story and he's being doing this for decades. and he does not appear to be a right winger.
