Authorities cancel opposition leader's flight to southwestern Venezuela

http://www.eluniversal.com/nacional-y-politica/140210/authorities-cancel-opposition-leaders-flight-to-southwestern-venezuela

"Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo López reported on Monday that authorities from the National Civil Aviation Institute (INAC) and the National Guard have stopped the plane (Conviasa) where he was travelling –along with some other 100 passengers– to go to the state of Táchira, southwest, to attend a meeting with students from Los Andes University.

In an interview with daily newspaper El Universal, López explained that he checked in but when trying to get on the aircraft, authorities from INAC and Conviasa banned him from doing it. "After struggling for a while complaints voiced by passengers, we finally made it to the plane, yet they have informed the flight has been canceled."

"I am still on the plane, but we have been told that there are some prosecutors and officers from the National Guard and INAC, who intend to open a case against me and even arrest me on grounds of obstruction of air traffic," Lopez remarked.

Are they worried or something? It's not like they screwed up the economy and haven't done anything to improve people's security... Oh wait

I like this new site I found. I "think" Lopez ended up not going so the other passengers on the plan could continue.

I don't know much about him. I get the feeling though that he might be the new opposition leader since Capriles is kind of waffling lately. Maduro is saying that he will make a decree that those who try to "destabilize" the country will not be allowed to be candidates for office for life. The persons who he was referring to were Machado, Lopez, and Capriles.

He's already participated as the opposition candidate for presidency 2 times, and he still has a governor's job to do. He simply cannot keep dedicating himself to being the flag bearer of the opposition anymore, as he has other responsibilities as governor of Miranda. I think because of this, Leopoldo is having the torch gradually being passed on to him as the face of the opposition, as he has no official political charges to fulfill and can dedicate more of his time to being the new opposition leader, and also he's immensely popular.
