Bolivia's national satellite Tupac Katari has entered its commercial phase and national telco Entel and Bolivia TV have started to use its services.
Over the coming weeks, the rest of the 15 national companies which have purchased some telecom space, will begin to use the satellite.
According to Ivan Zambrana, president of ABE, the country's space agency, the satellite will start meeting the national demand for telecom services, following which it will export the rest of the spectrum to other Latin American countries.
Entel has already announced an important price reduction for its mobile services and Internet, which will be available through LTE satellite connection. In addition, Entel is to launch a direct-to-home (DTH) pay-TV service, and to this end the national telco has purchased nearly 50% of the satellite's capacity.
