Venezuela's supreme court prohibits protests, even peaceful ones, without permission

La Sala Constitucional del Tribunal Supremo de Justicia venezolano (TSJ) emitió hoy una interpretación sobre el ejercicio del derecho a la manifestación pública señalando que se requiere una autorización administrativa para hacerlo y que en caso contrario podrá ser dispersada por la Policía.

El TSJ informó en un comunicado que la Sala Constitucional interpretó el artículo 68 de la Constitución que “dispone en su primera parte que los ciudadanos y ciudadanas tienen derecho a manifestar pacíficamente y sin armas, sin otros requisitos que los que establezca la ley”.

“Ese derecho político no es absoluto y, por ende, admite restricciones para su ejercicio al ordenar que el mismo se ejerza conforme a las previsiones de Ley”, indicó el máximo tribunal.

En ese sentido, la Corte Suprema señaló que “resulta obligatorio para las organizaciones políticas así como para todos los ciudadanos, agotar el procedimiento administrativo de autorización ante la primera autoridad civil de la jurisdicción correspondiente, para poder ejercer cabalmente su derecho constitucional a la manifestación pacífica”.


As if anybody needed more reason to believe that even the judicial power of the Venezuelan government are also controlled by the boligarchs. So essentially they're going against what St. Hugo said some years ago regarding that all one needed to be allowed to protest was in the Constitution itself:



Can't say I'm surprised, though. There are the same group of people that proclaimed Chávez didn't need to step down from office during his last sick leave, even though he had been absent for more than 30 days and the constitution itself clearly states that a new president had to be assigned if such a case should come to happen. The supreme court is just another arm used by the boligarchs to try to maintain as much power as they can in the country. Fucking sickening.

So who's on the right side of history in all this, I ask you?
